Individual Therapy

I firmly believe that effective individual therapy begins with a collaborative relationship with clients. While I see a broad age range of adult clients with various backgrounds, I have extensive experience and particular interest in working with young adults, career professionals and LGBTQIA+ clients. The main specialty area of practice for me is the treatment of PTSD and complex trauma symptoms. Within this, I am also well-versed and skilled at supporting clients with a variety of co-occurring disorders.

I specialize in several evidence-based and mindfulness-based treatments, including:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) - Certified IFS Therapist and Approved IFS Clinical Consultant, Level 3 trained

  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

  • Expressive Arts Therapy

Support for the Provider

I love working with and supporting other mental health providers, whether offering direct psychotherapy or consulting for colleagues wanting training or support with implementing trauma-focused work, IFS, DBT, or CBT with their clients. I regularly see therapists as part of my caseload and currently consult for colleagues in both NY and NC. I am certified in IFS and am an Approved IFS Clinical Consultant, meaning our time together can count for consultation hours towards IFS certification.

Family Support Therapy

Family members and loved ones may have a history of invalidating your efforts or symptoms in an attempt to help you. However, effectively collaborating with your support system can be key to us understanding and addressing mental health distress. Figuring out with your support system how to best support you with your unique mental health challenges or deciding to embark together as a team to learn to communicate more effectively and set boundaries with one another can produce deep healing. I offer space and time to sit down together to approach presenting issues at a family systems level.

Group Therapy

I have extensive experience conducting group therapy across treatment populations and treatment settings. My intention is to offer group therapy options in the future through my practice, such as trauma skills, interpersonal process, and/or DBT skills groups for young adults and adults.

PTSD and Complex Trauma Symptoms

A main specialty area for me is working with survivors of trauma, including those who have experienced or witnessed physical or sexual abuse, neglect, combat, or assault. Additionally, trauma may include experiences of significant betrayal, loss, illness, abandonment, systemic injustice (i.e., racism, sexism, ableism, etc.) or other adverse experiences across the lifespan. People commonly misperceive the term trauma as relating only to incidents specific to the veteran or assault survivor population that lead to a formal diagnosis of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). While I assess and treat PTSD, I also take a broad view of trauma as any unprocessed event(s) that overwhelmed your system’s ability to cope at the time and that has led to symptoms that continue to impact your system negatively. I am trained in several approaches to working with trauma, with a particular emphasis on using a systems and attachment-focused lens to understanding complex trauma symptoms.

Please know that we do not have to talk in detail about your trauma(s) at our initial sessions. Assessment may or may not be my initial approach depending on your presenting needs and issues, and sometimes it can be more essential for us to focus on building our relationship and providing you skills so that you feel grounded and trusting of me in sessions as we proceed.

Dual Diagnosis Recovery

It is important to identify and treat your system’s unique symptom set holistically. Clients often come to treatment with more than one mental health and/or physical health issue, and I recognize that the mind and body are inextricably intertwined. I am well-trained in supporting clients with a complex set of presenting symptoms and diagnoses, including trauma, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, chronic pain, ADHD, self harm, suicidal thoughts, personality disorders, and addictions. Some people find psychiatric DSM-5 diagnostic labels supportive and others find (understandably) that they have major limitations. I want to empower you to understand mental health labels while also exploring what makes you and your lived experience unique.

I greatly appreciate collaborating with other treatment providers, including other therapists, life or wellness coaches, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, primary care physicians, or pain management specialists to the extent that this can ensure you receive comprehensive care.
